SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary Academy are very proud to be a Children’s University school, where we work in partnership with Wolverhampton University. Mrs Byrne is the Children’s University lead at SSPP. Children in Year 5 and Year 6 are enrolled on this programme, every pupil can work towards different levels of graduation.
Children’s University is a charity that works in partnership with schools to develop a life-long love of learning in children. This is acheived by encouraging and celebrating participation in extra-curricular activities in and outside of school. The impact of participation in such activities is proven to positively impact development, social skills, self confidence, wellbeing and learning.
When they are in Year 5, our pupils are introduced to Children’s University. They can work towards accreditation and graduation over a two year period. Children are rewarded for their participation in extra-curricular learning and participation outside of school of developing their knowledge in a wide variety of areas. At the end of each year, a Graduation Ceremony is held where parents can come and celebrate their children’s efforts, and they are able to dress in their cap and gowns.
As a school, we value our partnership with Children’s University as it supports our personal development offer superbly, and provides them with the opportunities to develop their skills in becoming inquirers, confident communicators, critical thinkers who are principled, collaborators, risk takers, reflective and well-balanced learners. All of these characteristics and skills help ensure the children are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities they may experience in the future.
