Yesterday, Dr Mark R Smith, who studies astrophysics, came to meet our year 5 children to discuss our solar system. This linked in well with their current topic in science of ‘The Earth, Moon and Sun’.

The children were fascinated by the information shared, and also demonstrated their own knowledge with Dr Smith. The children actually ran out of time as they had so many questions, so Dr Smith kindly provided his email for any follow up questions from the children. Dr Smith commented, “The children and staff are very enthusiastic and the children are very knowledgeable about space related topics – a worthwhile visit’.

A special event to put in the diaries… On February 10th, the Moon and Mars will be in conjunction. This will mean that between 5:40 pm and 11:35 pm, if you look in a South West direction you will be able to see the Moon and Mars without the aid of a telescope.

Thanks to our Science Lead – Miss Field – for arranging this visit.
