Yesterday, our Reception class participated in lots of different activities in their class to do with celebrating Diwali! Look at the wonderful things they got up to…
Last week, and also continuing in some classes this week, the children were treated to a Harry Potter theme of learning. This included learning about the books, descriptive writing, conversions of money, potions, learning about owls, drama and much more! Culminating in a dress up day on the Friday. Enjoy the pictures below:
This week in school, we are having our very own Harry Potter themed week. Some classrooms have already embraced the theme by decorating their rooms. Children’s work this week will have a Harry Potter theme to it, and they will be having some fantastic workshops to enhance their experience.
On Thursday, we celebrated outdoor classroom day at SS Peter and Paul. Each class went outdoors to complete lessons and explore the natural surroundings of our school environment.
Nursery have loved spending time outdoors today, on Outdoor Classroom Day.
They have run/walked around the school field at least once #ssppgoingthextramile
They completed challenges, for example jump on something very, very small, put something small in your pocket and run to something that is bigger than you.
They have made faces using natural materials; they learned how to carry a stick safely; they discovered a small hole and talked about what might have made it; they saw lots of leaves, trees and clouds; they had fun throwing leaves in the air and they found some fungus and a feather.
They also practised putting our coats and hats on, taking off our shoes and putting on their wellies. They finished with a cup of hot chocolate. Yummy! Children said “yummy…delicious…can I please have more?”
Year 1 had a busy day, taking their learning outside and thoroughly enjoyed it. First the children went on a phonics hunt reading clues associated with outdoor objects. Next, using a range of resources, Maths learning involved counting objects to 20 and beyond! The children ate their bagels and fruit outside in the sunshine. Finally, a science investigation was carried out by the children to find the best material to use for an umbrella for their teddy.
Year 2 sat in the outdoor classroom and discussed the sounds they could hear, and why they could hear certain sounds like the crackling and crunching of leaves. The children also went outside with Miss Rickhuss to work on their phonics sounds on the iPads.
SS Peter and Paul are bringing back their ‘going the extra mile’ campaign during the second lockdown to keep everybody feeling positive with an active body and mind. Watch the video below:
How will you go the extra mile?
Year 6 have already started by walking/running a mile around the playground.
Well done to our Year 4 children, who participated in their first Sacrament of Reconciliation yesterday.
During October, everyone at SS Peter and Paul has been celebrating Black History Month. In Early Years, the children have celebrated in a range of ways including: wearing traditional dress, African drumming using body percussion, learning Che Che Kule, tasting plantain chips, mango, Caribbean spiced fruit loaf and mango juice as well as making necklaces and listening to stories.
Other year groups have been learning about inspirational black people such as Ruby Bridges, Marcus Rashford, Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela and Wangari Maathai. Year 2 are currently writing a biography as part of a local competition on a chosen person.
We would like to celebrate our fantastic attendance of 96.9%! This is helped by our wonderful parents and carers supporting our school and their children’s education by wearing masks and socially distancing on site. Thank you!
