Writing Impact Parent Workshop

By Mr J Morgan25th April 2018
Thank you so much to all of the Year 2 parents who attended the writing workshop last week as part of the IMPACT project. The aim of the project is to involve more parents and children together. During the workshop, parents were able to work with their children on a writing task and were given a pack of resources to use with their children at home. We received 100% positive feedback from parents who attended, with most parents saying that they now understood how to support their children at home. The project will run for six weeks and we are looking forward to seeing the homework that children are doing each week with their parents.

Easter Bonnet Parade

By Mr J Morgan25th April 2018

Last week, we had an Easter Bonnet Parade for your Nursery and Reception children. All the children looked absolutely brilliant in their home-made bonnets. Thank you to all the parents and family members that supported the children in creating these lovely works of art.

Mrs Williams, Mr Morgan and Miss Higgins had the difficult job of choosing three winners, who won an Easter Egg. We couldn’t let the other children’s hard work go unrewarded though so everyone received a Cadbury’s Cream Egg.

A fantastic effort by everyone involved.

Celebration and Easter Project Winners

By Mr J Morgan29th March 2018

This morning we had our celebration assembly.

First, we had all of our entries for the Easter Garden project displayed in the hall and we had three judges decide on a winner for each class. The judges consisted of: Mr Asbury (Site Manager), Mr Spinks (Academy Committee) and Mrs Thompson (Office Staff).

The winners were:

Year 1 – Martin Dimitrov

Year 2 – Raphael Ani

Year 3 – Baxshenda Mahmoud

Year 4 – Wiktoria Zelawska

Year 5 – Ronya Mostafi

Year 6 – Eros Edginton

The standard this year was better than ever, and the judges had an extremely hard choice. Thank you for everyone that entered, these will be on display in school.

We then gave out our weekly Golden Book certificates, celebrating the wonderful work in school.

Our attendance award went to Sophia Giuliano from Year 6. Her name was picked at random from all the children who have their attendance over 96%.

We then had to decide on a winner for our Citizen of the Term. Each teacher picked a child from their class who had demonstrated the Catholic virtues and values this term and a name was chosen out of a hat to decide on our winner. Our Citizen of the Term is Rihanna Robbins from Year 6.

Finally, we had a raffle for a wonderful Easter cake made by our year 2 pupil Jessica Fisher and her mum. This raffle raised £30.00 for our prayer garden and the lucky person to take home the cake was Miss Rickhuss.

What another fabulous term at SS Peter and Paul!

Tag Rugby Superstars!

By Mr J Morgan28th March 2018

For the third year running, SS Peter and Paul had qualified for the city finals in Tag Rugby. This took place at Wolverhampton Rugby Club on Monday 26th March.

There were 16 teams who qualified, who were split into 3 leagues. In our group were: Fallings Park, Bhylls Acre, Claregate, Loxdale and Lanesfield.

Our results in our league were:

SSPP 3-4 Fallings Park

SSPP 2-4 Bhylls Acre

SSPP 1-1 Claregate

SSPP 4-3 Loxdale

SSPP 3-1 Lanesfield

This meant we finished 4th in our league of 6, missing out on 3rd on amount of tries scored. We were then drawn against St Barts in the the next knockout game, where we came out 3-1 winners. This meant that ourselves and Castlecroft came joint 5th in the whole city, as they beat Claregate in the other game.

A wonderful performance from all our children, and our rugby team continues to improve year on year!

Catholic Football and Netball Event

By Mr J Morgan26th March 2018

On Friday 23rd March, SS Peter and Paul entered a Netball and Football team to compete with other Catholic Schools at Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Academy.

There was a mixture of Years 3-6 in both teams which demonstrated the depth of talent we have at the school. The netball team did really well, winning 2 our of their 6 games and only narrowly losing against the eventual winners – St Bernadette’s from Wombourne.

The football team did amazingly considering the lack of games they have played this year. In their league they beat and drew with St Marys, lost against St Bernadettes and drew with St Michaels meaning that they finished second in their group qualifying for the semi finals.

The team put up a strong performance in the semi final and the 3rd and 4th play off game and finished 4th out of the 9 teams that entered. A special mention to Reuben in goal for SS Peter and Paul, who pulled off one of the best saves I have ever seen.

A great performance by both teams.

Share a Story Event in Early Years

By Mr J Morgan26th March 2018

Early years children welcomed their families for a Share a Story event on Friday 23rd March. It was a wonderful opportunity to read and tell stories together, in a range of languages. It wasn’t only parents and teachers who were involved in the storytelling, as both Nursery and Reception children told a traditional tale that they had learnt in class. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Year 5 Wolverhampton Maths Challenge

By Mr J Morgan21st March 2018

Yesterday, four of our Year 5 children attended a city maths challenge event at Wolverhampton Girls High School.

The children were split into two teams and had to answer several challenges and were given 8 minutes to solve each problem.

21 schools attended from across Wolverhampton and Walsall with 64 teams competing. I am extremely pleased to share that our children performed fantastically well. One team finishing 13th out of 64 places and the other team finishing 32nd out of the 64 teams.

We were also one of the top performing Catholic schools in the city. The children will receive a certificate during this week’s Praise Assembly to celebrate their wonderful performance.

This just reinforces the fact that we have many talented mathematicians here at SS Peter and Paul.

We hope to send some Year 4 children to a similar competition in the Summer term.

Year 4 Love Reading!

By Mr J Morgan12th March 2018

Year 4 produced a wonderful class assembly on Friday morning – dedicated to how important reading is to them. This was particularly appropriate as were celebrating our rearranged World Book Day in school so the hall was awash with everyone’s much loved book characters.

The children spoke about their favourite stories, acted out some of their favourite parts and sang a wonderful song about how there is a book for everyone. This really was a fantastic assembly; enjoyed by parents, staff and the children.

Well done to all the children, Miss Aldridge and Mrs Bellavia for a lovely assembly.

Tag Rugby Sub City Finals

By Mr J Morgan12th March 2018

On Thursday 8th March, our school participated in the Tag Rugby Sub City Finals event at Smestow Secondary School.

There were 8 schools participating – split into two leagues, and the top schools would qualify for the City Finals on Monday 26th March at Wolverhampton Rugby Club.

We were very fortunate to be joined by an ex pupil – Ruby Cochrane – who has been volunteering to help support the club. Our first game was against Bhylls Acre and it was very closely fought, with us losing 6-5. Our second league game was against Villiers Primary school and we continued to play well – winning 4-2. The final league game was against St Stephens, who had started with the same results as us. This was a close match and finished 3-3. Amazingly, we finished 2nd in our group due to the amount of tries we had scored.

This then meant we were playing for the top four positions overall. We had to play the team that topped the other league, which was Uplands. The children (already ecstatic with finishing second in the group) carried on their fine form and won 5-4 to earn the right to play for 1st or 2nd place. Their next game was a repeat of their first against Bhylls Acre and despite a strong performance – Bhylls Acre won 3-1. A really strong performance from SS Peter and Paul, who are playing the best rugby for years. We go into the Finals event in a few weeks full of confidence. Well done to all the children involved and thank you to all the parents who came to support.
