Sports Day 2017

By Mr J Morgan28th June 2017

Last Wednesday we held our Sports Day, which just happened to be on the hottest day of the year!

The heat did not stop the children (and parents) giving their all in the different events. The children represented themselves and their houses brilliantly; supporting the different children during their events.

In the morning, Early Years and Key Stage One took part in running and obstacle events earning points for their houses. By the time their events were finished, St Andrews were standing in the lead.

The Key Stage Two children and our afternoon Nursery came out in the afternoon to again try and earn points for their respective house. They competed in a variety of running, obstacle and throwing events and we were also able to see a wonderful performance from our young dancers; performing their two dances that they had recently performed at the dance festival.

After all the events, including some very exciting relay races, the points were added up from the morning and afternoon events, and the winning house was St Georges. The house captains were awarded the trophy during Friday’s Assembly.

During the day, money was being raised for Diabetes UK through the sales of refreshments and raffle tickets to win fruit and vegetable hampers. We are delighted to announce, that through your support, we were able to raise a fantastic £89.31.

This was definitely the best sports day for several years, and we at SS Peter and Paul would like to thank all the parents that came to support their children, took park in the parent races and also volunteered to run our refreshment stall. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Well done to everyone involved!

‘Lets Dance’ Dance Festival

By Mr J Morgan27th June 2017

Children from Years 3-6 represented the school in the dance festival at Newhampton Arts Centre on Monday 19th June.

They performed two dances that they have been learning with Nicole (our dance coach) linked to a Disney theme. The children danced their hearts out and did themselves, watching parents and the school proud. There was also a solo performance from our Year 3 pupil, Ella Webb to a song from the Moana Soundtrack, choreographed by herself.

A video of the performance will be added soon.

A pleasant day had by all.

International Children’s Day

By Mr J Morgan5th June 2017

On Friday 26th May, the children across the school celebrated International Children’s Day. The children got to plan what they wanted to do throughout the day.

In Early Years, the children requested to wear their own clothes, participate in free flow activities inside and outside Nursery and Reception and have music playing with lots of dancing. They also wanted to have special food, some of which was donated by our families.  We would like to thank our parents for their generous donations of food from a range of cultures. This included; Lithuanian biscuits, Latvian pie with meat, Italian cannelloni, Chinese food, rice, samosas, Polish jelly dessert and Romanian cake!

May Procession

By Mr J Morgan26th May 2017

This morning was our May Procession service for the crowning of our lady. In a change to recent years and to celebrate the wonderful weather God has sent us, we chose to have the service outside.

Martyna, who is from Year 6, crowned our lady in front of our whole school and several parents in the glorious sunshine. There were opportunities to celebrate the talented artists in our school, who produced pictures depicting the different incidents in the life of Mary. Our year 6 pupils led the service tremendously with some excellent singing from the rest of the school.

Thank you to Mrs Byrne, Mr Swanwick and Miss Higgins for organising this morning’s ceremony.

A Quacking Time in Reception

By Mr J Morgan17th May 2017

Last week the children in Reception had a special delivery of 7 mysterious eggs. The children then had to guess what type of eggs they were. There were guesses ranging from chicks, penguins, snakes and crocodiles! Fortunately, no crocodiles or snakes hatched out of the eggs and instead we were lucky to have 7 little ducks hatch last Thursday and Friday. Children (and teachers) from all over school have been fascinated by the little ducklings and have been visiting them daily to check on how they are doing.

The ducks in reception have prompted some excellent opportunities for writing in the class. The children have written instructions on how to look after ducks and also they have written letters to mother duck so that she knows how her children are getting on at SS Peter and Paul, which I am pleased to say is swimmingly!

Kwik Cricket Festival

By Mr J Morgan16th May 2017

Earlier today, eight children from years 4, 5 and 6 represented the school in a Kwik Cricket festival at Fordhouse’s Cricket Club.

There were four schools who attended and these played each other in matches, with the winning team going onto play in the city finals competition. Each school had eight overs to field and eight overs to bat, with the team with the most runs winning.

Our first game was again St Bart’s who had all year 6 boys in their team, with some very talented cricketers. They scored 289 runs, with our children scoring 214. This was a tough start for our children but they didn’t let their heads drop.

Our second game was against The Royal school. They batted first and set another huge total of 284. Our children came out very determined and there were some fantastic shots from Autumn,  Ariyan and Jorawer. After our eight overs, we had scored 262 runs. Just short of the Royal’s total but a massive improvement on the first game, our children were buzzing!

Our final game was against Stowheath Primary School. Our captain, Ariyan, chose to field first so that we had a total to try and beat. Stowheath batted very well and scored 244 runs. We started off very well with Reuben scoring some sixes and our other pairs also batting well. Then in the final over, Stowheath got their best bowler in and he got three wickets in a row. This meant we had lost 15 runs! Fortunately, we had built up enough runs in the previous overs and we finished on 251 runs! A great result for the team and a great way to finish an excellent morning of cricket.

Well done to all the children involved!
