Year 2’s Trip to the Black Country Living Museum

By Mr J Morgan6th April 2017

On Wednesday the 5th April, children in Year 2 went to the Black Country Museum to enjoy a day learning all about the Victorian era. This trip was organised to support their learning of their topic on Victorians from this term. The day was a great experience for all involved with a very ‘hands on’ way of learning.

Once they had arrived, they were greeted by tour guides who ensured them they had a busy, fun filled day ahead. They were provided with amazing facts about what life was like during the Victorian period.

The first activity the children took part in was to experience what life was like for Victorian children in a Victorian school. They had the opportunity to recite multiplication tables and practise their handwriting on slates with chalk! After that, they were taken into a Victorian village to view typical middle and upper class houses and the difference between what houses were like then and how they differ now. They found out the daily life of a chemist including; what all medicines were made from and what would be used for different illnesses; which, they discovered, are indeed very different from today! The last part of the morning was to visit the ‘suck shop’ where children learnt how sweets were made and what were used to colour the sweets, including beetle blood for red colouring!

The children then had time to have lunch altogether and had the opportunity to speak to their friends about what they had learnt so far.

After lunch they were involved in a toy workshop learning about all different toys that were used by children back then and were able to play with them after. They sang songs and even had the opportunity to perform with the guides with the different toys using their imagination as Victorian children.

The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in all activities and will be writing a recount of their day at the Black Country Living Museum as part of their follow up work.

Below are some photos of their wonderful day!

Tag Rugby City Finals

By Mr J Morgan3rd April 2017

This afternoon, SS Peter and Paul again competed in the finals hoping to improve on last years 13th place in the city.

(Top Left to right: Kacper, Joshua, Martyna, Gavin – Bottom left to right: Autumn, Mabast, Maier, Eros, Giuseppe and Bartek)

We started in our pool games with a 2-1 win against Villiers Primary School. Next, we had a closely fought loss against D’Eyncourt, losing 3-2, finishing with a 5-3 loss against Bhylls Acre Primary School (who would eventually come runners up).

This meant that we would be playing for places 9th – 12th in the City. We had to play against Loxdale first and won a very hard fought match  5-4. This then meant we were playing for 9th and 10th place

Our final match was against Northwood Park, who had also came third in their pool. Northwood park quickly went ahead 3-1, but two excellent tries by Kacper in year 6, leveled the match at 3-3. This was how the match finished, so there was a ‘golden try’ scenario, where the next try would win. Northwood Park restarted and despite initially fumbling the ball due to a good tackle by Martyna, they managed to run through and win the match with the golden try.

An excellent performance by all the children involved, and an improvement on last years place which demonstrates the progress made! Well done to all involved!

Fitness Day!

By Mr J Morgan31st March 2017

Today our Key Stage 2 children were put through their paces by students from Halesowen College, who are currently studying health and fitness to become personal trainers. This was organised by Miss Stott to champion healthy lifestyles and how regular exercise can benefit your health. Years 3, 4 5 and 6 participated in a thirty minute session involving boxercise and circuit training. They were encouraged to try new exercises and develop teamwork to support each other. There was plenty of positive feedback from the children who thoroughly enjoyed their day. Thanks to Miss Stott and the students from Halesowen College who gave up their time to come and provide our children with this experience.
