Yesterday, we welcomed the community into school for our Eid Celebrations. Parents kindly brought food donations for the community to taste and share, games were played, some people had henna tattoos and a lot of fun had by all. Thanks to Mrs Murphy for organising this wonderful event and for all the parents who came into school.
Yesterday, the majority of our year 4 pupils took part in their first session of Rackets Cubed at Newbridge Lawn Tennis and Squash Club. Rackets Cubed is a UK charity that delivers integrated STEM education, racket sports and nutrition programmes to improve the lives of children from underserved areas. We are currently taking part in a 5 week pilot scheme, where the children are given a maths lesson, a squash lesson and provided a hot meal!
Today, Jane Coleman from Wolverhampton Library Services officially opened our SSPP Reading Shed. The children were excited, and will start using our outdoor resource so they can ‘read for pleasure’ during their playtimes and lunchtimes.
Thank you to Miss Field who ran a Sewing Club this half term. The children that attended have been working hard over the last half term to produce some lovely Easter crafts.
Yesterday, Mrs Murphy, accompanied by two of our children from Year 6, visited The Elms Resource Centre with the kind donations that our school community had given for Ramadan and Eid. The Elms Resource Centre are a Muslim charity and help the entire community. They have since let us know that they have supported more people than ever due our community’s kind donations.
This week, children have been learning about Holy Week as it falls in our holidays this year.
Reception enjoyed learning about the events that took place on Palm Sunday. With Palm leaves that they had made, they retold the story of that day.
Today, our children in Years 1-3 were visited by the Waste Department of Wolverhampton City Council and Rex – their mascot!
They learnt about all the different types of waste and how we can reduce, reuse and recycle items to alleviate waste!
This week, children across all years have been learning about Ramadan. As part of their learning about Ramadan, Year 1 made dried fruit balls. Dried fruit and seeds are often eaten during Ramadan as a way of boosting energy without eating a large meal.
Some of our Year 6 children led an assembly this morning to the rest of the school and parents on Ramadan and their faith. They did a wonderful job and answered questions very informatively. Here is the presentation that they created:
