CST Workshops

16th September 2022Mr J Morgan

Our Year 3 and 4 children had a workshop today about the Catholic Social Teachings. The children were spoken to about CAFOD and a little about the work they do. They watched a short video about a letter written from Pope Francis about looking after and loving our brothers and sisters. We looked at four of their nine principles – Taking part, Putting people in most need first, Thinking of everyone and showing we care. The children read through some scenarios and decided which scenario was relevant to the nine principles. The children shared some great ideas.

International Democracy Day

16th September 2022Mr J Morgan

On Thursday 15th September, we celebrated democracy day by holding our school votes for our School Council representatives and for our house captains! The children wanting to take on these roles had to do a speech and then their fellow peers voted as to who they would want in the role! The winners were announced in Praise Assembly today!

Roald Dahl Day

13th September 2022Mr J Morgan

Today, the children celebrated Roald Dahl’s birthday by dressing up as their favourite characters from Roald Dahl books! Mrs Griffiths led an assembly, where we learned about the amount of books he had written and when he first wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! This came as quite a shock to some of the children!

The children also spent time in their English lessons learning about their new class texts, which are all Roald Dahl classics!

Celebrity Guest!

9th September 2022Mr J Morgan

Today, we were very luckly to welcome local celebrity Eva Abley, who was a finalist on Britain’s got Talent! Eva shot to fame as a comedian on the televised talent show finishing 5th, while also promoting awaress around her disability Cerebral Palsy.

This morning, she spoke to the children about disability and about showing kindness and respect, which fitted in brilliantly to our school rules and ethos! Eva also didn’t disappoint the children as she told them a joke about the difference between teachers and a book….. you can shut a book up!!!

All of our fantastic summer learners were awarded the chance to share a picture with Eva!

RIP Queen Elizabeth II

9th September 2022Mr J Morgan

Today as a school community and a country, we mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Her commitment to the service of this country was evident till the end, and her reign is something we will never see again.

As a school, we marked her passing this morning with a special assembly and children will spend the day remembering and celebrating her reign as our Queen.

How wonderful to welcome our school community back after their holidays! You will all have received a letter yesterday stating some of our staffing changes, PE Timetables, and expectations moving forward for the new year, if you have not, please let us know at the school office.

Our new children to Reception are settling in really well, and all the children have settled well into their new classes as they have been getting to know their teachers and completing activities to reactivate their learning from last year!

It’s Gold!

20th July 2022Mr J Morgan

We are delighted to announce that we, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Primary Academy, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year. This is our 3rd Gold mark in a row!

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in
2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible. We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community. We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

Time Capsules

14th July 2022Mr J Morgan

Over the last few weeks, our children have been completing work in class to bury four specially themed time capsules on our school field. As a school, we wanted to capture the significance of events such as: The Queen’s Jubilee, The Commonwealth Games as well as celebrating the children’s resilience during the pandemic and our school’s contributions towards the communities such as our defibrillator campaign. The four capsules were buried in a special ceremony held yesterday – how exciting that in decades or centuries to come people will be talking about our amazing children and school?!
