Mr Morgan’s Maths Problems of the Week are creating quite the stir at SS Peter and Paul! Children have been queuing to try and get their answer in the box. Children are encouraged to answer a different problem each week, with children being rewarded for participation and for getting the correct answers!
This half term, Year 6 have been getting a taster of Gaelic football from qualified coach Dermot Thornton (also a player in Ireland). At SS Peter and Paul, we are always looking to give our children the experience to try new sports and this is definitly one that our children have thoroughly enjoyed getting to play!
Year 5 took part in an online workshop today with the author Benjamin Dean, who has written the book ‘Me, My Dad and the end of the Rainbow’.
The children learnt about the author’s inspiration and worked as part of a workshop to develop a setting description based on their most imaginative football stadium!
Some examples were a stadium set in the Arctic on a rainbow snow surface, and a stadium in outer space made of cheese!
On the last day of the residential, the children got up early to finish packing and tidying their rooms! They then had breakfast and did their last two activities in their groups. This consisted of high ropes, crate stacking, the obstacle race and then the manor olympics!
The children arrived back at school exhausted, but had a really fun few days!
Today has been a long day at Culmington Manor! Children spent this morning canoeing and kayaking on a nearby lake! They showed brilliant bravery going on kayaks for the first time on their own. After getting dry, we had lunch and then heading out for our afternoon activities that consisted of abseiling, crate stacking, high ropes and an obstacle course.
We have not long got back from an evening walk across the surrounding rural areas and children are starting to go to sleep.
Tomorrow morning, children will get up and finish packing and tidying their rooms before breakfast. They will have two more activities and have lunch before returning back to school for around 2:45pm.
The children in Year 5 and 6 arrived at Culmington Manor around 2:50 pm and were immediately put into their rooms to unpack!
They were then split into 4 activity groups. Groups 1 and 2 did team games, including rounders while group 3 did crate stacking with Miss Field and group 4 did the high ropes with Mrs O’Leary.
Everyone then came together for dinner, before having some free time to unpack and relax in their rooms.
At 7:00 pm with the mist descending, the children went into their activity groups again. Group 1 did the high ropes with Mr Morgan, with quite a lot of year 5’s going up to the top! Group 2 did crate stacking with Mrs O’Leary and Groups 3 and 4 did the team games with Miss Field!
The children have just had some showers, if they’ve chosen to, and are getting ready for bed. They are going to be up bright and early at 7:20 am to get ready for breakfast and a morning of canoeing and kayaking.
Year 3 visited the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre as part of their History learning on the Stone Age and Iron Age. The children were able to take part in fun, hands on activities including cave painting, using a stone age fire bow, wool spinning, wheat grinding and building a wall out of wattle and daub. The staff at the Discovery Centre were very impressed with the enthusiasm and attentiveness shown by the children during their visit and Miss Field was proud of how well the children rememberedĀ their learning from History week.
Congratulations to Ella in Year 3, who designed our new mascots Peter and Paul. They have now been recreated by an artist – Scott Anthony – using Ella’s original design and these will be used to celebrate positive work in school and also charitable work that supports our school’s mission.
On Thursday, the school celebrated outdoor classroom day by taking their learning outdoors, demonstrating the benefits of outdoor learning!
Our younger children planted daffodil bulbs, created transient art using leaves, created a leaf bonfire and leaf fireworks. They also had hot chocolate or hot squash and created a firework that went whoosh using coca cola and mentos.
Some of our older children learnt through developing our school allotment areas, and as you can see – some of the work going into that is really showing fruition.
