Pyjama Day in School and at Home

By Mr J Morgan26th November 2020

Nursery have been learning about celebrating birthdays this week, so today they combined that learning, their words of the week ‘happy’ and ‘one’ with wearing pyjamas and had a fantastic pyjama party to celebrate everyone’s birthday this year, whether they have already had it, or it still to come.
They played musical statues, danced along to Agadoo, Superman and Gangnam Style (which made them all feel happy) and then had some party food. They had one breadstick and cake, more than one crisp and a slice of birthday cake which had one candle on it.
A great time was had by all!

Reception too have been focusing on Birthdays and the word Celebration. The children wrote shopping lists for what they would have at a party. They also enjoyed some of the items that they would buy!

Year 1 all came in their pyjamas today to school! A great effort – well done!

Having to isolate didn’t stop our Year 2 and Year 6 learners from joining in the Pyjama Day for Ronald McDonald House! Here are some pictures of Year 6 in their live lesson with Miss Higgins and Year 2 children in their pyjamas after completing their live lessons of Maths and Phonics today!

Hawkeye – Bird of Prey Experience

11th November 2020Mr J Morgan
We were very lucky to welcome Alistair Leese from Hawkeye Falconry Centre (he is head falconer) .
He showed a range of birds of prey and demonstrated their flying abilities to all our year groups. Some of the birds included a Spectacled Owl called Domino who originates from the Amazon Rainforest. His dark brown fur allows him to disguise as a monkey, he then makes a call which sounds like monkey then when the monkey’s come to him he eats them!
We also saw a Great Grey owl called Bluebell and a Peregrine Falcon called Todd. Peregrine falcons are the fastest animal in the world as they can fly up to 242 mph.
Children will be producing some work in their classes based on this wonderful experience.

Outdoor Classroom Day!

By Mr J Morgan6th November 2020

On Thursday, we celebrated outdoor classroom day at SS Peter and Paul. Each class went outdoors to complete lessons and explore the natural surroundings of our school environment.

Nursery have loved spending time outdoors today, on Outdoor Classroom Day.

They have run/walked around the school field at least once #ssppgoingthextramile

They completed challenges, for example jump on something very, very small, put something small in your pocket and run to something that is bigger than you.

They have made faces using natural materials; they learned how to carry a stick safely; they discovered a small hole and talked about what might have made it; they saw lots of leaves, trees and clouds; they had fun throwing leaves in the air and they found some fungus and a feather.

They also practised putting our coats and hats on, taking off our shoes and putting on their wellies. They finished with a cup of hot chocolate. Yummy! Children said “yummy…delicious…can I please have more?”

Year 1 had a busy day, taking their learning outside and thoroughly enjoyed it.  First the children went on a phonics hunt reading clues associated with outdoor objects.  Next, using a range of resources, Maths learning involved counting objects to 20 and beyond!  The children ate their bagels and fruit outside in the sunshine.  Finally, a science investigation was carried out by the children to find the best material to use for an umbrella for their teddy.

Year 2 sat in the outdoor classroom and discussed the sounds they could hear, and why they could hear certain sounds like the crackling and crunching of leaves. The children also went outside with Miss Rickhuss to work on their phonics sounds on the iPads.
