School Through to Tag Rugby City Finals!

By Mr J Morgan8th March 2017

Yesterday, some children in Years 4, 5 and 6 represented the school in the Tag Rugby Sub-City Finals competition. Kindly, Mrs O’Leary stepped into be the team coach and she did a fantastic job. This was the children’s first experience of competitive tag rugby, having unfortunately missed the practise event a few weeks earlier. This did not phase the children though as they performed brilliantly and behaved impeccably as usual. They won two out of their four games and finished third in their league of five schools. This meant that we qualified for the Tag Rugby City Finals Tournament. A fantastic achievement by all that participated. A special mention to Autumn Marchant, who was picked out after the tournament by a member of staff from Highfield’s for a wonderful performance.

World Book Day 2017

2nd March 2017Mr J Morgan

The children and staff have had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day 2017. Thank you to the parents who have helped the children come into school in some very creative costumes and for the staff with some creative costumes of their own!

This morning the children watched an excellent theatre production of Alice in Wonderland, which was then followed by a workshop for our Year 6 children and some competition winners from across school; Nana in Year 2, Laura in Year 5, Madison in Year 4 and Seba in Year 3.

Then classes swapped classrooms with the children pairing up and reading their favourite stories to each other. There was even a Where’s Wally hunt for Early Years!

They took part in a mini beast hunt and then made ‘bug hotels’ to protect the mini beasts in their garden. They found worms, woodlice, beetles, millipedes and slugs and were not afraid to touch them and hold them! The Wildside Activity Centre are offering a range of activities during the Easter holidays, visit their website www.wildsideac.co.uk for more information.

Yesterday here at SS Peter and Paul, there were lots of fun activities celebrating Shrove Tuesday.

In Reception, we invited parents in to make pancakes with children, they then topped with lemon, sugar or banana.

Early Years Traditional Tales Day

By Mr J Morgan15th February 2017

Today the children in nursery and reception have concluded their topic on Traditional Tales by having a dress up day. We had princesses, Kings, knights, fairies, Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood, to name but a few!

They danced together at a grand ball in the hall, made sandwiches, salad and cheese and pineapple on sticks for a banquet and listened to some of their favourite stories.

All of the children and staff had a very enjoyable day and have learnt a lot about traditional tales; try asking them what Goldilocks did, what the big bad wolf said to the three little pigs and what Jack sold the cow for, and they should be able to tell you.

Towers Day 3

By Mr J Morgan10th February 2017
P1060900 P1060908

This morning the children had to strip their beds, pack, tidy their rooms and hoover. They then went out for their final activity of canoeing. We canoed across the lake to have lunch and then went to another part of the lake to play some games before heading back for shore.

We are going to have a light snack before leaving here around 5:00 pm. When we return to school around 8:00 pm, the children will need to unload the bags and all return into the school hall where any remaining money will be handed back and any medicines will also be returned. The children will then be able to be collected from the school office.

Towers Day 2

By Mr J Morgan9th February 2017

The children woke up to freezing temperatures here in Wales but that did not stop them participating in lots of activities.

The children started by doing several activities around the grounds including zip line, jump rope and climbing along a cliff face. Then after warming up and having their lunch, the children headed into the valley for some gorge walking. Here the children went into old mines, climbed up and down streams and showed great climbing ability to balance across the slippery rocks.

This evening after dinner, the children did some orienteering in the dark with their torches before going into spend their money at the Towers Shop, whilst others played pool and table tennis.

Here are a selection of pictures from today…

After arriving yesterday, the children made their beds, unpacked and had lunch. They then split into three groups and went on separate walks in the mountains along some lakes including Llyn Elsi. On arriving back at Towers, the children had dinner and pudding before getting ready for their evening activity. We then went out as a whole group for a night walk with torches into the local forest, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. We then returned for a hot chocolate with the children finally going to bed around 9.30.
