Today, we hosted out first session of the Family Numeracy Programme as part of a government trial to support better outcomes of pupils and raise confidence in parents understanding of maths.
The parents thought about how they had already used maths in their day and then worked with their child to make a ‘multiplication flower’ to support the child’s recall of times table facts.
We have been celebrating National Numeracy a week early at SSPP. Children have been playing Numbots Bingo, creating Numberblocks bottle rockets and thinking about their vocation in the future and how that relates to maths.
Today in school, we celebrated NSPCC Number Day by coming to school dressed as our times table rockstar avatars! Children and staff made a fantastic effort!
We also entered NSPCC Rocks, and I am pleased to say Year 4 were the top performing class in our school!

Yesterday, our Year 5 children took part in a national STEM Challenge – Road to RIAT! They used their skills from a variety of curriculum areas: Maths, Science, English, PSHE and Design Technology to compete in a Glider Challenge and then they had to design a sustainable aircraft for the future!
On Wednesday, in partnership with Wolverhampton Wanderers Foundation and the PDC, were invited to Aldersley Leisure Village to take part in a maths workshop with darts. The children got to meet professional darts player ‘Alan Souter’ (who has just qualified for the quarter finals in his debut Grand Slam), meet Wolfie, and learn maths in a varitey of ways while learning how to play darts!
A truly wonderful experience, the children will not forget!
