Culmington Manor Day 1

15th November 2021Mr J Morgan

The children in Year 5 and 6 arrived at Culmington Manor around 2:50 pm and were immediately put into their rooms to unpack!

They were then split into 4 activity groups. Groups 1 and 2 did team games, including rounders while group 3 did crate stacking with Miss Field and group 4 did the high ropes with Mrs O’Leary.

Everyone then came together for dinner, before having some free time to unpack and relax in their rooms.

At 7:00 pm with the mist descending, the children went into their activity groups again. Group 1 did the high ropes with Mr Morgan, with quite a lot of year 5’s going up to the top! Group 2 did crate stacking with Mrs O’Leary and Groups 3 and 4 did the team games with Miss Field!

The children have just had some showers, if they’ve chosen to, and are getting ready for bed. They are going to be up bright and early at 7:20 am to get ready for breakfast and a morning of canoeing and kayaking.

Year 3 Visit Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

15th November 2021Mr J Morgan

Year 3 visited the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre as part of their History learning on the Stone Age and Iron Age. The children were able to take part in fun, hands on activities including cave painting, using a stone age fire bow, wool spinning, wheat grinding and building a wall out of wattle and daub. The staff at the Discovery Centre were very impressed with the enthusiasm and attentiveness shown by the children during their visit and Miss Field was proud of how well the children remembered their learning from History week.

Outdoor Classroom Day

7th November 2021Mr J Morgan

On Thursday, the school celebrated outdoor classroom day by taking their learning outdoors, demonstrating the benefits of outdoor learning!

Our younger children planted daffodil bulbs, created transient art using leaves, created a leaf bonfire and leaf fireworks. They also had hot chocolate or hot squash and created a firework that went whoosh using coca cola and mentos.

Some of our older children learnt through developing our school allotment areas, and as you can see – some of the work going into that is really showing fruition.

Visit to Parliament

3rd November 2021Mr J Morgan

On Monday, our School Council were very fortunate to experience a trip to London and a tour of the Houses of Parliament. Our local MP – Stuart Anderson – met the children and walked with them on the tour, answering questions that they had.

The children found out about how the Houses of Parliament used to be a palace for the royal family, and walked through the robing room, the Royal Gallery, the House of Lords, central lobby and finished in the House of Commons, where our Prime Minister speaks.

The children then had lunch by the River Thames before walking through Whitehall, past the World War One and Two memorials, then up to Trafalgar Square and to see Nelson’s Column.

An interesting, and exciting day was had by all – and the children were complimented on their excellent questioning and behaviour throughout. Thank you to St Edmunds’ for lending their minibus to transport the children to London.
